Physical examination

Approximately two to four weeks before the scheduled stem cell collection, you will undergo a physical check-up. You will meet your doctor and will learn all of the details of stem cell mobilization and donation as well as  potential side effects. The screening exam includes taking your medical history, a physical examination, an electrocardiogram and an ultrasound of your abdomen.

There will also be a blood test to determine your ability to donate. These infection parameters are determined (hepatitis, HIV, syphilis, toxoplasmosis, etc.) to prevent infections by donated cells.
